My thesis came back from wherever it went. I imagine it had fun while it was gone, but now it's back to business. Everything went well, I have a few revisions to do and then off it goes to the large federal library. There it will sit unread with the thousands of other projects done by crazy masters students like myself. Although, I think mine is going to be the only one on the shelf with a bright orange cover! (thank you Copy Nova for your never ending supply of crappy golden rod card stock)
Recently I saw some inspiring lectures at the Elektra Labs series at Montreal’s Usine C. Every so often I find incredible cultural centers hidden throughout the city. Montreal has no shortage of fantastic venues for any type of art. The Ex-Centris i (...)

My masters thesis has been submitted and I'm currently in my PhD in Composition. Until I graduate I'm a Masters/PhD/lecturer/student. My transitional account tore a hole in the computer system that took a few days for the ICS staff to work out. I am excited to have that problem, but it means a lot of work on my part. I have some interesting projects coming down the line this year. First, a commission by the McGill percussion ensemble. Then a piece for digital instruments and live electronics. Also, I am teaching Digital Studio Composition at McGill School of Music this year. This is an excitingopportunity and I am glad to have it.

Things are going well. Concert dates will be posted.

2nd Draft

Finished the first draft of my thesis and sent it off for editing. The 2nd draft is now being checked over by my advisor. This is where the real work begins. Trying to keep on track, but these last few weeks of freedom have allowed my sleep patens to shift way from my typical diurnal mode.

I have to produce a lot of diagrams, fix my text and update the Codecs 4x15 Score.

Been working on my thesis as of late. Also, finding time to do some electronica production. Over the last two years I've been pushing pretty hard at school so I had to let the production slip a bit. It feels good to do a more creative type of work. I started working more work with some 8 bit emulation, which is very interesting. There is a whole group of people who are obsessed with creating music on old sound chips. Chip tunes, are usually programmed for a specific chip in a nerdy way using code. I use a different way of doing things, but it prevents my fake chip tunes from having an authentic quality. I like the sound but am by no means a chip tune purist.

In a pretentious world that is obsessed with ever increasing bit depth and sample rates, there is something that feels good about 8 bit.

Posted the final paper from the BUSA cross faculty course. The Treble
Cliff: Music creation and distrobution in a post file sharing world.
My groups project "Playdio" has been posted in the writing section of
the site. Overall the class and project were very interesting. It was
nice to learn a little about the "other" side of the music world. This
experience made me look at the business of music making in a different
way.

Codex 4 x 15 was successfully premiered on April 9th, so I can now devote time to loading my materials into this website. My older projects as well as more recent works will slowly be updated as I bring the materials together. For the next while I'm going to be completing the written portion of my thesis as well as a Percussion Commission for the McGill Percussion Ensemble. Check back soon for new updates.

My friend Kevin and I have been working
together over the last few months to get www.ebritton.com up and
running. He has helped me with many of my adventures... From my ska
band, grad recital, recording.... Now I'll add website to the list.
So far things look great and I'm pleased with the way things are
shaping up. In the near future this space will share my music
and related activities. Things are still under construction so
please report anything crazy with the site. If you feel like testing
out my new e-mail, check out the contact page.
